We are participating in the March of Dimes Walk this year, March for Babies. It is this Sunday, April 19th at 2:00. This is our 5th year participating. This cause is so important to us because it has directly affected our lives.
For those who don't know CP's Story, I'll give you the quick version. :) CP was born 4 months early at 24 weeks. He weighed 1 lb, 7 oz and was 12 inches long. He was born at UVA hospital and had a rough stay. He stayed in the hospital for the first 167 days of his life. He had multiple surgeries, was on a ventilator, chest tubes, etc, etc. We are so very blessed to say that we now have a very healthy 5 year old.
The march of Dimes raises money to fund research that is trying to find ways to prevent premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality. A few things that research from the March of Dimes directly benefited CP. When he was born, they gave him an artificial surfactant that helped open his lungs and helped him breathe, this was developed from research funded by the March of Dimes. Also there was a hole in his heart, that typically closes in term babies, but is still open on babies that are born too soon. He was given a medicine that helped close this hole, developed by March of Dimes research. If he didn't have that medicine, he would have had to undergo yet another surgery that his little body may not have been able to tolerate. So those are just a few reasons why we are so passionate about this cause.
We want to help give other babies a healthy start and possibly avoid a rough start like CP's.
You can help us! Come walk with us and have people sponsor you,
or sponsor us! Even $5 adds up...
